Chicken Wire
Chicken wire is the traditional medium used to construct large paper mache sculptures. Most children find chicken wire difficult to cut and join accurately.

Plasticine
Plasticine is the best modelling medium for holding detail. It has to be warm to model successfully and is expensive. Paper mache can be applied directly over plasticine without using a ‘barrier’ such as cling-film.

Clay and Cling Film
Clay is a traditional sculpting medium. It is available in large packs and can be re-used. Cling film is used as a ‘barrier’ between the clay and the paper mulch. Without cling film the paper mache will not dry so rapidly.
