Cardboard and Paper Mache
Cardboard may be used to build straight-edged sculptures. Use masking tape to hold sections in place. Once the sculpture is built, cover first the joins then all surfaces in one layer of paper mache. Avoid letting the card become too wet.
Strips of card can be woven and triangulated to create a strong 3-D frame. One layer of paper mache is placed carefully over the structure to provide a strong skin. Paper mulch may be used for additional detail.
Full Head Masks
One strip of card around the head and another two over the head. First build the side profile of the mask using card strips . Strengthen sections by triangulation, using strips of card joined with masking tape. When the side profile is completed, work on the front and other profiles.
Use paper mache to strengthen taped joints and prevent any collapses. When dry, continue to build up a framework of card strips. Leave spaces between strips of about 5cms. Cover small areas at a time in one layer of paper mache.
